SHIRLEY — Select Board receives NextGen Energy microgrid proposal without recorded vote. NextGen Energy CEO Kimberly A. Johnston, Partner and Chief Commercial Officer Gina Ashe, and Partner and Chief Financial Officer Riccardo Bertocco presented the Keep Lights On Initiative, requesting Shirley join a five-town consortium to evaluate a 10-megawatt community microgrid with long-duration storage.
The company estimates the joint feasibility and scoping assessment will cost $300,000 to $375,000 for all five towns combined. Under the financing structure, investors retain 98 percent of cash flow for five years, then ownership and 98 percent of annual revenue transfer to the municipality, with projections of over $1.5 million in annual town revenue from year six onward across a 20-year asset life.
